Last week, the team visited France to check on the progress of the two salt lines currently on order. This investment will not only modernise our facilities but also strengthen our eco-contribution through salt reclamation!

SJG Join MIM to Reap Recruitment Benefits and More

UK leading manufacturing specialists SJG have rejoined Made in the Midlands to connect with Midlands based business leaders and utilise the Made Futures platform. The decision to join Made in Group came after the company’s struggles with recruitment. The team hopes to raise the profile of the company through the group’s community of manufacturers.

Based in Alcester, SJG are specialist foam converters, rubber extruders and gasket manufacturers. Established for over 50 years, the team are experts in their capabilities and are a market leading manufacturer. Over the years they have been responding to the growing global demand for components which make industries safer and drive forward innovation. Robert James, Director at SJG, said:

“We have great relationships with existing customers and we have joined the Made in group to network with other businesses who may benefit from our advice and services. The company has recently increased their capacity and capability with a 5 axis water jet machine. The new equipment allows them to take on more complex projects and increase their output.

With an array of capabilities under one roof and the increase in workload, the leading manufacturer is looking to recruit new staff. Robert and the team are looking forward to utilising the Made Futures platform, a jobs board created by the Made in Group for job seekers who are looking for a role in manufacturing. Robert added:

Further investment in new machinery

The week commencing 8th November we took delivery of a new waterjet from WARDjet to further increase our cutting capabilities.

The machine further increases capacity and gives us greater cutting ability.

The machine is now fully installed and operational, thanks to the help and support of the team at WARDjet.

SJG International was established over 50 years ago and having acquired various companies over the years, is now in a position to service a wide range of customers operating in many different sectors.

The company began under the trading name of SJ Gaskets Ltd, the company supplied gaskets, washers and sheeting material to a wide range of customers who needed sealing solutions for various applications. The company quickly established a strong reputation for service and quality.

A short period after this the company was presented with the opportunity to become a key distributor and partner to Zotefoam PLC who were looking for companies to distribute and convert their range of Plastazote and Evazote foams.

Last week we celebrated our achievements over the past 54 years in a relaxed environment.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get chance in 2020 to celebrate the milestone of 50 years in business.
The business wouldn’t be where it is today without our people and the commitment, we have all made to continually improve and evolve the business through the years.

Earlier this year we highlighted 17 people with 20 years + service which is an extraordinary example of the loyalty shown to the business and is almost 1/3 of the overall workforce. ?

SJG International Ltd — 05/11/2024

In October, members of the UKGSA had the exciting opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities at SJG International, a family-run business based in Alcester, for over 50 years.

Established initially as SJ Gaskets, the company has evolved significantly. It specialises in a wide range of products, including Zotefoam materials, gaskets, rubber extrusions, and vacuum rings, and it also serves as an Allied Distributor for Flexitallic.

During the visit, 20 members explored various aspects of SJG’s operations, including the Design and Engineering department, which utilises cutting-edge software to create drawings and 3D models tailored to customer specifications. Members were also shown the tool room, which makes the dies and fittings and has recently been upgraded with modern CNC capabilities to cope with demand.

The comprehensive factory tour highlighted distinct areas dedicated to mouldings, extrusion, press cutting, kiss cutting, routers, waterjet cutting, lamination, a finishing area, the packaging area, and quality control. Notably, the cutting area features advanced machinery such as the Atom CNC pneumatic head machine for gaskets. Two waterjets, the first capable of cutting foam, wood, and metal, and the second a WardJet 5 Axis multi-head waterjet.

SJG International has made significant investments in expanding its facilities, including new cladding, roofing, and solar panels, as well as adding a new extrusion line and 3D printing capabilities. A new purpose-built warehouse has now been completed, allowing the old warehouse to be repurposed for flocking. At the time of the visit, the flocking line was in the testing phase and will soon begin operations.

SJG International is not only JOSCAR registered and ISO 9001 certified but has also committed to the Armed Forces Covenant.

The visit provided valuable networking opportunities for members over lunch, allowing them to connect and learn more about one of the UK’s leading gasket manufacturers and foam converters.
